Today we finally got to try Chicken Guy!, the new Guy Fieri restaurant in American Canyon, CA. Opened in December 2024, the franchise is operated by the same group running North Bay Mountain Mike’s Pizza locations.
Pros: Food quality, taste, and value. It’s a chicken strips concept similar to Raising Cane’s. The chicken was served hot, had a crispy panko crust, and was moist and nicely seasoned. The fries were good, but the Apple Cinnamon Crunch cereal milk shake was outstanding. Way more chicken for the same price than Chick-Fil-A. 10 sauces to choose from, we liked the barbecue, mustard, and chipotle sauces. Clean dining room and restrooms. Neat Guy Fieri touches around the dining room, with fairly loud 70s rock playing.
Cons: Odd location, poor parking, had to walk across drive-thru lane to reach front door, understaffed, somewhat disorganized, not clear where to line up to order, the famous Donkey Sauce was bland. Mrs. TVWB's sandwich special, the Pepperoni Chicken Parm Sandwich, had little to no marinara sauce.
I know Fieri is a polarizing figure for some people, but the food was good and hopefully they'll work out the kinks that I observed. They're planning to open 10 restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, they already have several in Florida, Nevada, Southern California, New Jersey, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, and New York. They're also planning to install Chicken Guy! in some of those empty Walmart spaces that used to host McDonald's. If they open one closer to home, I will go again.
