I've seen photos of insulators on Weber charcoal grills that look to be made out of the same material as the new handles on the lid and sides. Anyone know where I might find these for sale??

Thanks for your help... Bob

I have a heavy piece of aluminum to stir the coals and adjust the vents. We don't need no stinkin' heat shields!

I have a grill or two with those vent covers. The handles are still too hot to touch when the grill is fired up. They're made of the same thing that the handles are made from (which also get much hotter than their wooden predecessor). I wouldn't waste my time with them. I use a hook to open and close the vents and a grill glove to lift the lid.

i swear there must be something wrong with MOST of the handles you guys have.

i have a 2010 performer and i have never had a problem with the handle or the damper handle getting too hot to touch

Even when my grill is up around 700, the handle isn't too hot to the point where i can't touch it.

Larry/Tim, those are the ones but I still don't find them on the Weber site. Do I have to call them to order??

Thanks for your help, Bob

I agree with Troy that I have never had a problem grabbing the vent on my performer and moving it. Mine doesn't seem to get hot.

Bob, I just got home. Looks like you already figured it out. Yes you do have to call to order them. I think I ordered about 6 last time so I have extras.

FWIW, I use an all-purpose bbq tool to open/close vents, stir coals, etc. They are sold as dandelion weeders, I suppose you could use them for that purpose.

Just hold your cold beer for a couple of minutes, take a BIG swig, band then grab and twist the vent quickly. Works every time for me.

I appreciate all the replies concerning the molded lid damper handles and I've received them from Weber. Now, I need some advice regarding how to get them on the kettle lid. I'm having trouble getting them over the "bumps" on the vent. I'm afraid that if I try to force them too much I make break them.

Any suggestions from anyone that's been successful at installing them on your kettle(s)??

Maybe place your hand under the lid where the tab on the vent is to use as leverage and then push the insulator onto the tab.

Also, you could try a little dab of vegetable oil or something to make it slide on easier.
