Using the WSM as a jumbo joe

Started out last night to use my 18.5 WSM as a jumbo joe clone

I just wanted to grill up a family pack of Italian sausages and I thought it might be too much for the smoky joe....

I like the potential here , but ultimately was not happy with the way the cover slopped around. I think I'm going to invest in those tabs you can install to hold the cover. I'm sure it would've worked as it was , but I elected to put the mid section back on and put the sausages on the bottom rack...no water pan.....which worked out pretty well. Flare ups certainly weren't a problem.

This configuration works excellent for chicken , by the way. :wsm: As soon as my " bandwidth" limit resets , I can post pics again , but for now , these links will take you to the album on photobucket.

Can't see pics :(
I think you need upgrade photo bucket.

yeah , I noticed that this morning....will dumping some of my unnecessary photos free up space for new pix? I don't feel like paying for another monthly bill

Even if you delete it won't help. I went thru this already and something that's called bandwidth is the issue. I pay 2.99 and I'm all good now.

I don't think it's too critcial to have a tight fitting lid for grilling up most things .. but if you need a lid, a garage sale 18 kettle lid or even a large disposal aluminum pan works as well.

yes. I'm sure you're right. I know I could live with the looseness....I'm just a bit OCD sometimes. I like things to work a certain way and I have a hard time relaxing.
Do you think the kettle lid would overlap a little and sit down on the rim better?

I'd suggest using http://imgur.com for posting forum pics.

It's free, fast and reliable and you don't even have to subscribe. Just upload your photo and post the link it spits out. Of course, you can also sign up and have your own albums there too.

It should fit like a glove... I believe the 18 WSM and 18 kettle are the same bottom piece.

Yep, that's the lid from my SJP on the wsm.
