Unusual cook

Last night at 10:30 I put two 7.5 butts on the WSM. I had a lit chimney of K and an unlit chimney in the smoker. Temps were at 275 at the lid, and it was drizzling outside. I figured the temps would settle down to about 225 like they normally do after about 30 mins. Top vent was 100% open the other three were about 33% open each. This morning at 5:30 I go to check the food, and temps were at 200 and there was almost no coals left burning, all ash. I had to add another full chimney of K.

Has anyone else ever burnt fuel this fast when it's not windy and not 20 degrees outside?

Thanks,
Michael

2 chimneys, specially with one full lit isn't going to last you that long I'd think, is that how you normally light it off for overnights?

You did not have enough fuel to begin your cook. You need a full ring of coals to do an overnight. Also, you only need about 10-20 lit coals to put over the unlit coals. Review the instructions for the minion method on this site. It is perfect for overnighters.
