Turkey Time is coming.

The frozen turkeys are now starting to show up in the supermarkets. Wal-Mart has the Jenny O birds for $0.84/LB. Not bad. I think the Butterball birds are $0.97/LB. We just got a 14.8 LB Jenny O earlier this week and it will go on the rotisserie in the Performer later today.

Prices should come down as we get closer to Thanksgiving.

Thanks for posting this.

Hadn't even thought about turkeys yet. Will be getting a couple on Tuesday when we do our regular shopping. I cook, break down, vacuum seal and freeze for the holidays, then heat the sealed bags in simmering water when the time comes. Makes for more time with the family and they come out of the packaging just like they went in.

Not for us, not anymore. The Thanksgiving torch has been passed to our oldest son. He has us, his brother and in-laws over. He smokes a couple turkeys, and every one brings sides. We're bringing sweet potato casserole and appetites.
He started this tradition a few years ago so they didn't have to spend all day between us and his inlaws. It makes life so much easier for us, (I'm on the road early the day after for deer season).
He's really on his game with the grills and smoker. I taught him well...

If my daughter, husband and grandchild are coming over will do a few 3lb boneless Butterball turkey breasts on the performer. No one except for me likes dark meat, if just me and the wife Alaska King Crab been a good year and have done them a few times when it was just us.

@Brian Thomas - How did the turkey come out? Any pictures? I'm thinking of doing our turkey on a rotisserie over my kettle this year, so I'm interested in your experiences/insights. I've smoked many turkeys over the years, but haven't done many on a rotisserie.

For those considering a turkey-free Thanksgiving, the natives might get restless. We did try to do a non-traditional Thanksgiving without a turkey a few years ago when time got away from us, but the family (two sons and one daughter-in-law), were less than impressed - lesson learned.
