traveling with the WSM?

me and the boys are getting together this weekend and they want me to bring the WSM and smoke a butt etc.

anyway so wondering how folks travel with the WSM? Its a four hour drive & I'll be driving my wifes minivan. thinking of leaving it together with the cover on and setting it in a box or something in the back of the van. Putting various things around it to keep it snug or something. I'll have a couple buddy's with me so there will be our stuff, coolers etc so not a lot of room to break it into pieces. Also the van is pretty new so no evidence that there was a smoker in her van

thoughts? Tips??

If you have to keep it put together make sure to bungee it together first. We usually run a few bungee cords from one leg through the lid & down to another leg. Make sure to put a towel wherever you connect the bungee cords together. Place the smoker on some cardboard and then if possible strap it down in the van as well. Oh and make sure to pack the beer too!

You might consider sealing it into a big trash bag, too. I don't think I would enjoy four hours of that smoky smell, and I doubt that your wife would want it lingering inside her van.

I used some stretch wrap on the joints - it stopped the fragrance and the rattle on a 12 hour trip in the back of my CrossTour.

I left the old 18.5 WSM at my folks house and bought a new 22.5" WSM for my home.

for that short a time, instead of bungee, wrapping, etc, use Duct Tape. It is quickly applied, removed and is as tight as can be once applied.

They even make a "no residue" version (purple package) so no worries there either
