Hello this weekend I am entering a charity BBQ contest. They are providing smokers and we can chose from Traeger and Kamado Joe. I was wondering what people think will be the easiest to use with no experience on the grill. I can actutally chose from a combination of the 2 and currently have 2 large Traegers and one Big Joe reserved.
I currently use a WSM with heatermeter controller. The Traeger has built in temperature control but I have read that it is not the most consistent. I could potentially use my heatermeter on the Kamado Joe but that may take extra time to fasten up that I don't necessarily have.
Basically I want to spend the least amount of time learning the smoker and get the best results possible.
I'm going to be smoking 6-8 pork shoulders and probably 8-10 chuck roasts (PBS). I may grill some chicken thighs, do one brisket and a couple racks of ribs(if I decide to turn those into the judges)
