I didn't think it was that weird. It was old and had been subjected to freezing temperatures for years. Here's a picture to illustrate where the old one burst.

I bought 3 of these at least they looked very similar. With the quick quarter turn to full on feature. I installed them and have had overc10 years frost free, maintenance free usage I love the quarter turn to full presure also, and I like that it was like 13 inches long to get into the warm area of the house, and all the valve,and seals mounted way back into that long thick stem to keep them in the warm envelope of the house.l have access doors in my ceilings, and back wall that are insulated with spray foam .
We were out of town one year for 5 days to come home to find the power off Dec hooked up the generator to get heat going ,power was fixed next day. But no problems with any of our plumbing.
A generic was our next search and purchase...
