To paint or not to paint?

All,

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck painting knobs, handles or side tables? I am currently working on a 2001 Gold B with a plastic handle and plastic trim around the porcelain tables. I soaked all of the pieces in a 50/50 solution of bleach and water then I scrubbed with simple green and a brown scouring pad. The handle and one of the knobs were so discolored they had what looked like yellow spots on them. If you look at the last pic of the knob you can see the discoloration and the handle was way worse.

Well I painted the handle today with gray Valspar paint and primer in one from a spray can. It turned out pretty good but my concern is will it last and should I paint the rest of the pieces the same color?

Those actually don't look too bad. I am restoring a 2002 Silver C and was considering using the dye technique that has been described in previous posts using Rit dye. It might prove to be more durable. I think I will try it on my gray plastic end pieces first, not sure about the knobs or handle.

I think it can work and will look way better, but eventually with hard cleaning you will have to repaint again. You can also paint the plastic wheels for an amazing transformation. At least they don't get heavy duty cleaning so often.

Thanks Jon, its a flip grill so my concern is for the new owner, I had zero choice on the handle, it was too far gone with fading and discoloration.

Yeah, I think I would be much more leery of doing it on a flip grill, but for my own use I wouldn't hesitate. I think it also is true that if you are repainting the same color it will go a lot easier than trying to do something like switch from light gray to black.
