Time to replace charcoal grill and opinions wanted.

I looked at one again over the weekend and what really bugs me about the performer is the lid holder. It seems that it still leaves the grill partly covered which would make it a tad more difficult to use the left side of the grill. Is this a problem that others find a fault?

I also looked at a Kamado while at the big box, and I would say it offers strong competition for a performer, but then the price is close to it also.

Your observation was the precise reason I opted for the One Touch Platinum. Tables either side. Lid lifts straight back but no gas lighter.

Did not know that. Useful information. Only Home depot has one in town, so I've not been able to see a platinum. No reason I guess why I can't keep starting charcoal the way I've always done. Need to find a store where I can see them all...............road trip...................d

Go to Target on line they are selling them for 199 free shipping per a post in the trading post area. that would work.

@kevin....I saw 299 at targets.

Guess I solved my lighter problem..........just going to use the side burner on my Genesis Special Edition (whatever that special means is a mystery), don't know why I haven't been using it anyway. Doing some ribs and chicken today on the WSM so used the side burner for the first time to light the chimney and works like a charm. I have been using the weber starter thingees, but the burner works soooooo much better and faster, already hooked up to large tank. Boy, am I stupid or what...........................d

I have not personely check this out as I do not need any grill at this time. I did look at this and say it as 299 also must been a promo code or something for him.

That still comes out to a good price for new, but it is still hard to beat the prices of CL performers I paid about 120 for mine I think made less, with a cover, a couple tanks of gas, tools, and some coal. It has been my fun toy all summer and fall I love learning to BBQ all over again,from a gasser, and I have picked up so many good tips from this site. Can not wait for the next cook.

The main thing is what ever you buy use it and enjoy it, they are a great piece of Americana, cooking your way, they will have a hard time voting that out your life.

Performer, no gas. Just adding another thought on the raising the charcoal, could you use a couple of the Weber charcoal baskets raised with some bricks?

that is one solution, another might just to use a smaller grate and place it so that it rests on top of the charcoal holders. That would make it real close.
