This Old (New?) Grill

I’m happy to report that the grill has been sold at my full asking price of $1500. It’s going to a fellow named Jim who is now directly responsible for 4 high-quality grill purchases from me. He started off with a nice gray lid with burgundy stripe 2 burner for his camp last year. He then referred his nephew to me who drove 5-1/2 hours each way from Maine just a few months back to purchase a Platinum from me. Less than a month ago, Jim returned to pick up a Gold C as a housewarming gift for his daughter and her family. Because he is a regular follower on my Facebook page, Jim knew about this grill from following it’s build progress there so he asked to see it when picking up the daughter’s grill. Seeing it in person must’ve sparked a flame. 3 days later, Jim messaged me to say he couldn’t get it out of his mind so that must mean it was destined to be his. With this purchase, he has now accounted for over $3000 in sales on 4 very nice grills. I’m both amazed and humbled to have such a quality repeat customer as this. I guess I’d better get started on that Snap-On grill now…there’s a bunch of people waiting to see that one done.

Tom that's so Awesome!! I'm so happy to hear that there are people out there that appreciate them like we do and are willing to pay for it. The value is easily there!! Well deserved Tom!!

🙋🏻‍♂️ I’m one of them. That is a gorgeous grill, and I’m betting it’s going to last a very long time!

The weather has put a literal damper on my plans to paint over the last 2 days so tonight I decided to unbox this NOS 9850 LP side burner. It won’t work for the project I’m documenting here as it fits a Genesis II and Genesis III according to front & side of the box. However, I don’t really anticipate ever using it on a different project in the future (sorry, not much of a side burner fan) so I thought this might be a good place to share it nonetheless. I also thought it was kinda cool to find the original Weber shipping label where it was sent to the “Home Appliance Mart” on Stadium Blvd in Ann Arbor, MI. I’m sure someone on here knows of the place and/or has actually shopped there at some point in time. Enjoy the pics.
That's an amazing piece of History right there. Something you don't see everyday!

Piggybacking on an older thread of mine here to share that Super Jim has come back around for a 5th grill. He messaged me a few weeks back looking for yet another grill from The Weber Guy to gift for Christmas. He picked a Silver B from the boneyard (thankfully before the snow moved in and covered things) and we agreed on a scope of project and price. Nothing crazy or over the top about the build at all as you can see below. For me, the paint was the biggest challenge with temps not being in my favor. My method was to get everything warm in the shop and then move pieces outside just long enough to get a coat of paint on before bringing the pieces back in to dry in the warmth. Needless to say, I made a lot of trips back and forth to the paint rack in the yard. It’s my first real venture into a full on winter project. Usually, I’m just disassembling and cleaning / prepping parts for the spring push. With this result, I might break with tradition and actually try another full project over the winter.

Just awesome that have figured out a way to do it this time of year.
I’m not entirely sure how repeatable the effort might be. It’s a nuisance waiting for the shop to come up to temp from a dead cold start since it’s not insulated but the project has at least given me enough of a boost to consider trying to finish my Snap-On grill over the winter. Speaking of the Snap-On grill, I noticed that the axle caps for the tank bumper wheels are black on this model where they are typically white on everything else I can ever remember seeing. I’m assuming this is the way it left the factory. Can anyone confirm this? And are there other examples of the black cap nuts being used in this location on other models that I’m unaware of?

I think on some of my older stuff I'll have to check but I think maybe my junior and my Genesis 2s and Genesis 3s.

Maybe not. I looked back at some pics and haven't found any. I'll check when I get home.

I just did some Googling and came across two Snap-On grill representative in images. Both of these have the white caps. The plot thickens…
