Thermoworks

I am trying to find a good probe thermo that will hold up to BBQ. My wireless Nu temps are/were wonderful. 2 of the 3 original probes lasted 4 years. The other is still going stong. I ordered 4 replacements earlier this year, and they didn't last but a couple cooks. The meters have been backordered for a long time and I have had no responses to emails, and they didn't answer to the phone today. I am wondering how much longer they will be around.

I am looking at the Thermoworks TW362B. They have replacement probes for $8 and hopefully they will work with my Nu temps. I tried a couple different probes from my Uncle's, and neither worked with my Nu temps.

I also started checking around the thermoworks website and I would love to peice together a great thermocouple system, with datalogging. That's down the road though, as that gets expensive quick.

I am getting to the point where I can't read Amazon's reviews, there always seems to only be people bashing products or the sellers, and not giving actual reviews. Everyone on this forum is always open and honest.

Thanks!

It's my understanding that Nu-Temp is no longer in business.

I don't have a Thermoworks TW362B but use/used a couple of their many Pyrex/Onedia/etc clones. Works well. Don't know about probe interchangeability with Nu-Temp.

I emailed thermoworks and they checked into it and said it should work, but no promises. I went ahead and ordered the TW362B and an extra probe. If it works, great. If not, I have 2 probes for the TW362B.

Josh,

I've have relatively good luck with the Thermoworks TW362B. After a 11 months the first probe stopped working and it stopped beeping. I am sending the unit back since it is covered by a one year warranty, which is one of the reasons I bought it. I was tired of going through all the Polder thermometers I bought at Target.

Good luck,
Oak

the tw362 is a decent unit. I have had two for over a year now with no problems.

I'm slowly accumulating tc stuff though. I originally bought the mtc with a fast response wired probe for about the same price as a thermapen. I have since bought parts from Auber Instruments to make more probes. The finished probes were under 20 bucks and work out to be pretty tough with stainless braided wires and anti crimp springs at the wire/probe connection.

I'm looking at adding the tw8060 to my collection along with another fast response probe with out the wire so my mtc will be one handed.

I want a data logger but thats on the back burner after seeing the tw8060

I had to order the 362 and get off that site quick. Too many fun toys on there. Didn't you go with the auber atc? Might get one one day.

I know the feeling

. There's people that love their thermapen, and then there's us, that see all that's out there, and want more.

I have the auber atc. I got to get some more cooks with it under my belt before I can report back. I have never used a stoker or guru so I don't have anything to compare it to.

The auber probes are really nice for about 40% the thermoworks ones.

Josh, I have a Thermoworks TW362B probe thermometer and I really like it. I've bought three or four more for gifts as well. I highly recommend this thermometer. I'll be using mine this weekend at Coweta Up in Smoke (along with several other probe thermometers).

Thanks everyone, mine should be here Friday. Hopefully it will be so I can use it on my two butts going on Saturday night.

I do not care for the Polders, however, my uncle has one (well, I borrowed it as a backup for my comp and still ahve it) that has lasted 8 years. I told him he needed to put it in a museum.

J,

Are the Auber probes for the TW362 ? If not, are they thermosister or thermocouple ? If you are making thermocouple probes for under $20, I am very interested.

Not much trouble. You snip off the spade end and wrap bare wire around screw terminals. The plug is pretty nice and the whole thing is beastly when assembled.

Got my new TW362B in late Friday. Used it and the spare probe on my butts Friday night. Worked great and I really like the unit. The probes are double crimped and the wire seems of higher quality than most I have used. I highly recommend this for a none wireless unit.

HOWEVER, probe does not work in the Nu Temp wirelesss meter, which is really a disappointment.

In further news, I received an email response from Nu Temp. They are not out of business, but will not have any new probes or units for 45 days. At least they are going to honor the warranty and send me 4 new probes.

I had been talking back and forth through emails with a guy at Thermoworks and they have been looking at getting a wireless model out for awhile. He said he has heard rumors as early as next year.
