There might be something wrong with me

Yesterday I read a few posts here about smaller charcoal bbq setups and what to buy ect.......
Anyways I have the 14" Joe and it is nice, but it sure is small. I use it now primarily for either travelling or just starting my chimney on every time I cook.
So relaxing after work last night, getting the grill ready for some Octoberfest links and sauerkraut I mention to the MRS about a new travel grill. Told her what I read and a couple review youtube vids I watched. She immediately says I should be buying the jumbo joe. Like right now, get it we need to have it. In a2 weekends from now we are travelling to a cottage to stay with family for 2 or 3 days while they are there for the week. The bbq's here are just absolute garbage. Not sure what to do really. I just thought to myself there must be something seriously wrong with me when I didn't jump on the chance to get another bbq when the wife instucted me too...
I still have a few days, like up until Monday to order it and get it by the weekend before we go.....
I tried looking quickly for a used one but didn't see any. I like the rectangle charcoal grill but I thnk there is more real estate on the jumbo joe counter top model, and Rich said the baskets work good in that model too. I think it would be the best buy....$90 here in Canada.....I also have lots of baskets, so not other purchase is needed. The rectangle go anywhere model is only $5 cheaper.

Seriously though, any normal other time I would have thrown one in my cart and added a half dozen bags of charcoal and been done with it.
I still have a few days grace to get my hands on one before I leave for cottage country but maybe somewhere in there I just don't want to cook or be responsible for everyone's food while I actually get a few days for vacation type time off work...???...!!!
Also if I end up with a big joe.....my poor performer might see less cooking time, there is mostly just the 2 of us eating when I cook......
The performer will become nothing but a good use for a table for everything else.....

Just buy it and don’t look back! I’m lucky enough to have a 22” at the cottage at Lake Huron so, unless I really get a terrible taste for something special, I can do pretty much everything I need to on that. I understand the “I’m always the cook” on vacation I told my wife last summer whenever we go anywhere I end up being the guy behind the grill or stove. So I virtually never get much of a break, I don’t get a vacation, I just “get to” change kitchens! It’s a drag some of the time.

The Jumbo Joes are a good traveling grill. I have the older SJP with the side vents. I can see what Weber was trying to do with that design by trying to keep ash from coming out the bottom when transporting, but It doesent really get that hot.
I bought a second generation JJ with the bottom vent for my Son and that works much better.

I have the older 14" with the side holes you can adjust with the handle as well.......
It honestly was my first charcoal grill and it led me to where I am now.......$3,000 poorer, LOL
Joking but for real though the bottom vent JJ is the real deal??
It will be for cooking for 2 and it would appear as though I could do an indirect trip tip sized roast with smoke, as well as a burger cook for extended family....I am having a hard time imagining the size, I was amaze with the size difference between the Performer and the E6 when I got it built. In my head it was only 2 inches bigger but the bbq itself is like a tank. So when I thing oh 4 inches less in my head it seems tiny. Like 4 burgers only tiny....did you have any pics of it in action?

I keep looking at the PKGO as a travel grill.
It's so cool how the lid can double as a "second grill" to double grilling surface.
Very expensive though.

My current travel grill is the Weber Go Anywhere and I really enjoy cooking on it.

I will check out that PKGO too.....
What I really do need is a moderate sized pink charcoal grill.
I need to set it beside my grilling setup and just have it so the MRS could learn and I can tell people it's her grill :p.

I have a Smokey Joe (NIB) and a go anywhere that are still relaxing in my garage right next to a Simpson’s Smokey Joe (never been fired, one chip) so, as much as I’d really like to get another grill there is no way I’m going to do it!
Well, if a 26” came up I’d probably do it. The normal “travel destination” already has a 22” so, I don’t need to take anything there. The rotisserie might be nice but, I don’t know.

How about that Weber Performer 22" with the small side-table and wheels?? I am thinking now of buying-one to park my Cajun Bandit Rotisserie Kit upon it.

I've been searching CL/FBM for a cheap 18 Jumbo Joe, which I've decided will replace my square travel grill. They don't come up often.

Very use-able size -- big enough to do two zone indirect.

Bonus is that it also makes a great fire pit smore-maker after dinner is done. Just toss some wood on the coals. The lid holder makes a nice wind break heat deflector. And then easy to snuff out when you are done.

That PKGO looks pretty cool for sure, It is a above what I am considering spending for sure. I am having a hard time finding a need to buy the JJ and the SNS basket to go with it. I do want to make sure I can do indirect with or without smoke, along with cooking up a bunch of burgers or steaks. JJ and SNS basket would be about the $150 range new.....nothing used around here. I just feel bad for the performer because I feel like it will get used less once I start on the 18" grill. I am sure it would use a fair amount less on fuel.

Sounds perfect. Thanks for the size tip. I would like to see someone using one, might take a look on youtube, has to be something there so I can get a good idea on it.

Darryl, the difference between the SJ and JJ is really quite significant. That 4" seems like an acre when you use the JJ. One basket for indirect and you have the ability to do any type of grilling that a 22 could do. Plenty of cooking room for 4-5 people.
Like I said I've been looking to replace my JJ it's just a great all around grill for home or camping. But like stated above used ones are pretty rare. If we hadn't just spent many $$$$ to replace all the tile and carpet in our house I would buy a new one, but Barb would cook my butt in it if I did.

Buy the JJ!! i would use a regular basket and then foil the rest of the grate for a cheap SnS.
I like the SNS drip pan to but I have to stop somewhere right?
I have my cart all set up and delivery will be a couple days out.
I'm going for it, and the SNS too....it seems big, like at least 50% of the grill big so it might not be for every cook, but I definitely want to get some low n slow on it if I can with some nice cuts.....even considering a brisket. I know where I can get 5 pounders and it should fit on there....tight but I think it will be okay......

I appreciate the tips and from someone who used it before I have to have fait it is going to be big enough.
I don't have any other travel option so it pretty much has to be big enough. I don't really like my 14" joe......
I use it and only use it for lighting the chimney, works like a charm because it doesn't matter what falls out of the chimney.
Like I just said I am going to jump on a new one. Pretty sure on the SNS too, but I have about an hour before I order ( end of work day ).
It's hard to feel the $60 is worth it for the SNS when the bbq is only $90.
It's perfectly normal to have 5 bbq's at home right?

I’ve got a Jumbo Joe and was lucky to find the old Weber table for it too. I don’t do a lot of hiking but do take it tailgating and to the hunting camp when we didn’t have a good setup. Now it’s kind of put away until I want to cook a small pork butt or chuckie. I see a day when I won’t have all my large grills when it’s just me and the wife. I might just use the JJ.

I do have a PK360, love it but it isn’t really portables. When compared to other grills I guess it is but would look at the original PK or rhe new PKGO

This is only for when I am not at home...for now. There is only 2 of us but I have the E6 and the performer and when it comes to smoking a nice sized hunk of meat the available real estate is awesome, but I have been watching a few vids and what some of these guys do is awesome and I think I can handle it. I guess it warms up real fast so it would be a fuel saver I am sure and a lot of the time I am cooking a double bone in breast or 2 steaks, 4 sausages and other foods of similar size that gives us enough leftovers for another meal so it would fit perfect. I also want to believe that with it being smaller I will get more charcoal flavor like I find when I used to use my 14" joe. My biggest fear about getting it is I wont use the performer anymore and I love that grill, it does everything and does it good.
