Thanksgiving practice

Dear Board,

I decided to try a turkey breast on the Genesis as practice and as a confidence builder. I don't know if I am going to do the Thanksgiving turkey outside on one of the grills but I figured the more I learn and the better I get at it the greater the chance that I actually cook dinner outside. I know it's nothing special but I'm starting to cook better on the Genesis and my OTG than I can cook on the stove or in the oven.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get my Mom and Dad to sit down to Thanksgiving cooked on a grill? It would be hard to break 50 plus years of tradition, but I'm going to try!

Regards,

Tim Murphy ;)

Looks great Tim, and a little advise if I may as I have run into a similar issue. Don't seek to replace tradition but instead add to it. I did a Venison Roast as a separate dish at the CEO's Thanksgiving Dinner. Which by the way is one of the best meals you will ever eat in your life. Everyone tried some and the roasts disappeared real quick from people who never eat venison.
Now I always have a nice roast with her fabulous Turkey Dinner and it is loved by all and part of the tradition. It's all good.

Tell your parents you will do thanksgiving turkey once they try it you will be doing it every year...

This is for true! Everyone complained when I said that we should give my sister a chance to do the bird this year in her new house so I'll be doing the turkey on my performer again next weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving.

I like Bill's suggestion, just add to it. I don't even try to convince people set in their ways, to them their way is the best and its a waste of my time to try and convince them other wise.

You're bang on the mark Bill...
We don't 'do' Thanksgiving over here in the UK - so Christmas Day is the big one for us.
I rotisseried our Turkey over charcoal on my Performer two years ago and that's become the 'new' tradition. It wasn't our turn last year and everyone missed the grilled version...and they're all looking forward to it this year!!!

I have not cooked a T Day bird in the house since I've owned my performer. So since 1998.
Maybe you can ask Sis if she wants an extra bird for sandwhichs after you can bring a small one off the Weber......

I have been grilling trkeys on Webers since the 70's. Wonderful flavor and taste. Go for it.

If you are really concerned about your parents, also do a smaller one in the oven and that way everyone gets to sample each and make up their own mind.

once my family switched to either grilling or deep frying our turkey we never switched back to cooking the turkey inside. So much more flavor than cooking it in the oven.
