Winn Dixie is selling butts in the Tampa Bay area for $1.49 per lb. I don't know about other areas.

Sale is 2/22-2/24 only. I picked up one today, just over 8lbs for $11.99.

Good enough.

Waiting for the coals in the chimney to be ready.

I figure this 8 pound butt will be on the grate at 6:15am or so. I like to let that white smoke burn off.

Hopefully 8-12 hours from now it will be done. But I never know with these things. They can be tricky.

My wife saw the danged butt in the fridge last night and said it would be good for tonight's supper.

Too lazy to do it last night so I got up at 5am to do it. What a sap.😀

Nap time soon.😊

Aw man I don't know how I missed that sale, I just catered a friends birthday party Saturday and bought everything from walmart. Looks like i'll be stopping on my way home tonight and maybe again tomorrow lol. Thanks!

Stan;
That is a heck of a good price! I haven't seen them at that price for some time. I recently bought a couple of Boston butts from a locally owned super market in a small town not far from here (they have four meat cutters on duty at about all times) for, I believe, $1.79 per lb. and think I got a super deal. You did even better!

I have about given up on beef - it's way overpriced and we haven't been happy with the quality of beef for some time, either. Oh, we still do ground beef but we have largely moved to pork. That's not so bad, however, I am one of those that mostly prefers pork, anyway. In my estimation, it doesn't get any better than Ribs, Pulled Pork, Pork Chops, and Pork Sausage. So there, beef producers, TAKE THAT!!:p

Keep on smokin',

10 hours, 45 minutes and the internal temp is 193. Gonna take it out when it hits 195.

My doneness tester (ice pick) is sliding in and out all over the butt with no catching or resistance. The meat has pulled away from the bone and the bone is nice and loose.

Should be at 195 in a very few minutes. That's all I'm waiting for. I let the last one go to 205 and it was just a bit dry.

Out at 5:15pm - 11 hours even and temp was 195 on the nose.

Letting it sit for 20 minutes then I'll pull it, eat some and get some uninterrupted shut eye.

Good price! Sounds like you're in for an awesome meal. What kind of rub and BBQ you using?

I'm no purist, I generally do not make my own rubs or sauces.

I used some Stubb's rub on the butt and on the sandwiches I use Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. I like them both.

The butt came out great and the sandwiches are great.

Tried something new. I wrapped up some pulled pork, BBQ sauce and shredded cheese in a tortilla and microwaved it for about 20 seconds. Really, really good!
