I like me some sweet potatoes ... I do them on the ole gasser a few different ways... Lookin for a lil help for recipes to try on the WSM! Found a couple on the net but not overly impressed... Any suggestions?

Yea! Never have cooked them on the wsm, but low and slow on the weber kettle, away from the fire on the outer perimeter , they turn out well. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has done them on the wsm.

When I plan on doing steaks, chops, etc. on the Performer, I sometimes fire up the mini-WSM early and drop in a couple of smallish sweet taters. They take approximately 45 minutes in the mini that's perking along between 250 and 275 degrees. We treat them like a baked potato, but only use butter/spread.

I guess you can do sweet potatoes anyway you want, but if I'm cooking them outside it's gonna be a high heat type of cook on the grill, maybe even on the coals like Chris Lilly does. There are better veggies to smoke in my opinion, like stuffed cabbage.

peel the skins off, lightly EVOO them and place them on the rack of your WSM while you smoke your ribs, butt, pork steaks...
done them many times this way and they're great!
also, peeled, cut in half and EVOO again and stand them in a cast iron skillet.

or peel them and slice one inch thick, oil them and CIS again...
They're GREAT!

Thanks... I should have said "lookin for something different in terms of recipes for sweet potatoes on the smoker!"

Here is how I like em grilled..
Parboil sweets til still resistant to knife... Cool ...
Slice lengthwise into spears..

Combo Evoo , apple cider vinegar, chipotle pwd, cinnamon, paprika, cumin and salt ... Brush onto swt potatoes mulite times while on da grill until tender n'at ...

yams (or sweet potatoes) in my opinion need nothing added, not even Wisconsin butter.
kurt, the smoker doesn't get hot enough to use a cast iron pan, i only use them on a high heat grill
