FWIW, those butt splices are available in a marine grade (self-sealing) as well. I don't care for them personally...a permanent repair with a inline soldered joint covered with marine grade heat shrink (for outdoor use or wet locations) doesn't take that much more time and looks more professional IMO.

I did come across soldering in my YouTube adventures and would have went that route if I had the tools; I’m glad to know there’s always options though!
