Summit Platinum refurb?

Anyone know about these grills? Worth $50 for a refurb project? I don't know anything about these but looks like maybe a stainless frame and stainless grates.

The front of the cook box above the burner tubes rusts out and that is pretty much a done deal. There is another thread where someone is contemplating converting one of those into a platform for a Genesis cook box. Bottom line is there are some great parts there. I understand the SS Rod grates can be cut down to fit a Genesis grill pretty easily an they are top line grates. The stainless steel inlaid tables will fit a Genesis Silver/Gold/Platinum B or C grill.

Hmm I might have to go take a look. Looks like decent condition from the outside with the exception of the side burner lid, but I'll keep an eye on the front of the box.

If the fire box is not a rust bucket it will make a nice "keeper" grill but I don't know that they bring much on resale. Not just the front of the box BTW but the rear as well. Also the flavorizer bars are outrageously expensive. IIRC the ones for my brother's (same grill but not the platinum version) IIRC they were about $200

Here, check this thread out.

If the firebox has no rust on the front and rear panel and if the flavorizer bars are still solid this may be a good deal. Also check if the igniters still work. That distribution module is also very expensive. Same for the back burner.
I restored a non SS frame version a few weeks ago. They are hard to clean. You have to clean the fire box by hand with non abrasive tools to not damage the panels. In general they are not good flipper grills. Lots of work and parts can be expensive.

I would take one like that! If nothing else, worth it for the stainless framework and the stainless rod grates which will I think will fit a classic Genesis (maybe need some trimming). With the stainless frame and cabinetry, I think one of these would merit trying to fix up for a great keeper, especially with the infrared rotisserie burner. Weber might still help you with this firebox or you could try to get a sheet metal shop to make you a stainless replacement or at least reinforcement for the front.

I do agree with the others it isn't a highly promising flip grill unless you can find an idiot like me to pay top price o_O ! It is a really nice, fairly rare grill. Fix the firebox front like I described and it would be almost bullet-proof given decent care.

A lot of the parts fit on a Genesis B/C like the tables and cooking grates so if you decided not to fix it up you could part it out.
