Summit on CL

That wouldn't be too bad of a pick-up. I got one not long ago from CL and spent ~400 or so in parts. The flavorizer bars are pretty spendy and I didn't need the cooking grates. I needed new burner tubes & a bottom panel too. It might cost ya some bucks to get it back in tip-top shape, but a far cry from retail.

I am addicted to BBQ, grilling, waterfowling and dog training! My wife will have a hard time with another. Think I might have to sell her on it. We have NG at the house. Good to know you think well of it!

Wife doesn't say a thing about my grills & such as long as I keep producing meals. :D Plus, we've only gone out once this year so far and that's because it was a group outing. Been spending the $$$ at the grocery store & rather enjoying eating at home. Plus, I kinda backed off on the comments about her shoes & purses. lol

I am curently looking at a similar Summit (4 burner) here in Oz. Chad, how would you rate them, cooking wise, compared to your 'classic' Genesis 1000s?

Definitely worth a trip to go look. Parts are not going to be cheap because they are for a Summit they are not the typical stuff you'll find at Ace HW so that has to go into the overall equation. I would check it hard for rust along the bottom and frame. They are a big honking grill and stay in one place at most people's house so the effects of weather could have taken their toll. At first look it sure sounds promising. I love my Summit 420 and I always say it does things that will make even a hard core charcoal lover rethink gas grills.

I would be sure you can get the parts (Weber has discontinued many things for those early Summits). I will most likely have to end up scrapping my Summit 450 (older design than the one pictured) because the front portion of the fire box is rusting through and try as I might I cannot find a replacement piece. I may try to make one but it is heart breaking that I cannot find the piece and my treasure will soon be scrap metal.
