Summit Kamado top vent sticking

The schmutz is building up in the top vent of my WSK. When the grill is cold it can be difficult to rotate the vent, and I don't want to force things too much.
Why doesn't the gunk just melt away?
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you get the gunk out?
 
I don't have a Summit but a Akorn kamado.
Spray with a vinegar solution or simple green and wipe down, rinse.
I usually do it once a month.
 
I just use a simple degreaser spray I got at Menards on a paper towel or 3. Only when it gets really sticky. Same thing I use to cleanup the outside of the WSK. I don't want the vent like new, when it moved every time I opened the lid.

the sticking is good and not so good. mine sticks too but i prefer it than when it freewheels.

you can move the vent, even though it's sticking. just give it a nice nudge and the grease will self lubricate the vent dial.

or if you prefer, you can clean your vent up some. i'd personally use Dawn on a rag or a few paper towels in a warm water solution as Dawn is a grease cutter and non-abrasive.

this cleans the lower and upper bowls and the gasket too. a few sprays, let soak and scrape out with a plastic dough scraper (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXDFVMG?tag=tvwb-20) and you'll do just fine cleaning up your WSK. you will have to repeat this process a few times if your WSK has built up carbon and baked in gunk.
