StokerLog Version 5 Preview

Larry,

Create a free gmail account and use that for emailing. I've never had a problem using my gmail account for notifications.

Hope to get this fixed by this weekend, I'm doing a couple butts and ribs for the neighborhood kids. Of course I can always run Stoker Timer at the same time as Stokerlog I suppose.

Well shoot Larry, that's a real head banger. If it were mine, I'd start looking for the simple solutions, spell checking, return address, bla, bla, bla.

Interesting, so here's my answer to calculating an average temp for my cooks, right? I assume I'll need to change the name of the file after each cook so their not "overlaid" correct?

Or instead of having to rename that file what if you imported into Microsoft Access after every cook. Then you would have every cook saved in a new table. And then you can merge the tables together and then setup queries that you can search by food type, weather, etc. Even better create forms to make your searching that table that much easier.

Actually I have a Gmail account that I never use, and thus is not setup on my SmartPhone. I suppose I could setup Stokerlog to send email notifications to my Gmail account and have Gmail forward the messages to the email account setup on my SmartPhone . . .

Larry,

Were you trying to use the At&t acccount? If so, did you change the email port and mail server? I noticed on the new version, that Amir put as a default, port 587 and smtp.gmail.com, and tha works fine for gmail, but not so much for AT&T, try port 25 for them and their outgoing mail server, and no secure login. That should work fine from you house.

When I originally setup v. 5 I copied my settings from Stoker Timer and they were for port 25 and no secure login. Weird huh?

I use the gmail setting for sending but I send it to my sbcglobal.net email address.

Actually what I meant was, use Gmail to send it to my phone, was a long day today. Good news is I've got 16lbs of butt on right now and I'm watching my cook on Stokerlog!!!

Hey Ken, worked like a champ with my Gmail account. Odd because Stoker Timer works fine with the other, Oh well. Enjoying this butt cook. I've gone back to using a clay saucer and my temps are far more stable than with just the foiled pan; I would get these weird temp swings before, nothing major but when you looked at your graph you could tell sometims you'd get a 10 degree swing, which drove me crazy!!!! Check out the GRAPH It's a two butt cook.

I'm really digging v. 5. Love the floating temp panel.

Met a couple of new Eggheads at a conference recently and turned them on to Stoker, both placed their orders within days of returning home.

Larry,

I'm glad you got it worked out.

Amir,

I too am using the new 5 version of StokerLog. It's great. The only thing it's missing is the auto shift feature and I use that very seldom. Other than that, a discount meat and beer distributor locator is all that it needs.

You did a great job.

Larry, it seems that are still running with stock stoker firmware which shows incorrect blower status. There is a link elswhere for a new version which provides true status (stokerlog automatically adapts to either).

Amir, I'm sorry, I don't quite follow what you're saying. Did you see something on my graph?

Yes I did

. On your graph, the blower status goes from 1 to 10. As you can imagine, the blower is either on or off. It has no other mode.

The value extracted above is the average time the blower is on or off, not its immediate status. I asked the software developer for stoker if he could add a true blower status for me and he did last year. This is reflected from a new firmware which while not officially supported by Rock, most of us use and works great.

Here is the link to the new firmware: http://www.kaytat.com/

Very cool. I'll update after this cook. You didn't pursued (sp?) him to fix the Stoker "falling asleep" after a bit of a temp jump did you?

Happened to me again today.

EDIT: OK, time for breathalyser on my computer. I meant pursue.

I did get him interested in debugging it. But without a way to reproduce it, it is going to be very hard. I have also been remiss in following up with him, getting busy with other things.

Hmmm . . . Rock's is a very short drive from my house, maybe I should invite him over for a smoke and he can witness it first hand

Remind me again what auto shift is again?

It's like the ramp feature on other brands. What I did in mine was to tell the stoker to update to a new a temperature setting when a certain temperature on another probe is reached. For instance, I like to cook turkeys, starting out slow to get the smokey flavor in there and then finish hotter to keep from drying out the turkey. So I start the smoker at 225 and set the stoker to kick up to 275 when the internal temp of the turkey gets to 140. This is probably all unnecessary, but that's the way I like to do it. The bird comes out smokey and juicy. It works just like your "keep warm" feature, only different and more flexible.

I see. So to do this, we would need another target temp for the fire in user interface. And a check mark for the specific probe saying "auto shift?" When that target is achieved, the only thing different would be that the new target is sent to stoker?
