Start watching Walmart prices

Hey everybody, I've been a member for awhile but never posted except maybe a quick Hello when I first joined. I've learned a lot by just hanging out and reading. I recently ran across the deal of a lifetime on a Weber Performer Gold series grill and wanted to share the info. My wife and I was at a Walmart here in KY buying some groceries yesterday, and as we were leaving she said to me, "Oh wow, look at this." She was looking at the grills on display at the front of the store, and when I did look I could hardly believe my eyes. This grill was originally priced @ $299, but was discounted to $154! I was really tempted to buy it right then, but hesitated because I just bought a new smoker a couple of weeks ago, and my 15yr old Weber Kettle is going strong. I always liked the Performer tho, but never would pull the trigger because of the price. What I'm saying is that the grill itself with attached ash assembly usually sells right at $150, and I never could justify spending another buck fifty for the table. I mean, tables are a lot cheaper than that. We came home without it, and I stewed on that grill all night. I finally realized that I would never see this grill at that price again, so the first thing this morning around 5:30am I headed up to Walmart hoping it was still there. And by the grace of God, it was! But it was the only one, and it was a display model (which means to me I didn't have to assemble it). And I bought it. It rung up $299, but they gave it to me for the discounted price that was posted on it. I wish I could share a picture with you, but for some reason this forum won't let me attach any. I asked the guys working there about Weber's and was told that they're not a good seller for them. So, you might start watching the prices at Walmarts that sell grills, and you might just swing the deal of a lifetime like I did.

Well, I didn't have to wait till the end of the year clearance. Sometimes those only work if you're in the right place at the right time, or know somebody that works at a particular store. Things like this discounted this deep are rare, even during EOYC. Oh yeah, one more thing, it was assembled but missing the temp gauge and bezel. After a quick call to Weber, this solution was remedied in a heartbeat. A new one will be here in a few days. I will need to get me a cover for it, and I hear the new ones aren't all that good (Weber tried to sell me one over the phone). All the ones I've seen stop short of covering the wheels. Is there a better cover off of another type grill or brand that will go all the way (or close to it) the ground?

Here's an attempt to attach a picture off my facebook page.

I can't speak to longevity, but I like the Weber cover on my performer. It fit's perfectly and I kind of like seeing the wheel's. I like it better when the cover is off and I'm cooking something.

I have had this new style cover on for two years now or about. Winter and summer, still looks very good almost new.
I believe if the wheels were covered the cover would catch on them while moving or get frozen during the winter hindering the probability.

I've had the black premium cover on my performer since sometime in 2011. It's held up really well. I'll probably be looking to replace it later this year or next spring if I'm lucky. Most of the wear on mine is from chipping ice off of it in the winter months.

I'm impressed. I have an old Weber grill that came with a cover that's been on it for 15yrs now. It's held up well but needs replacing. My WSM I've had since 2013 is a different story, and I'm disappointed in it. For one, it fits tighter than a glove and is difficult to put back on. It's like it shrunk up over the past several years. It's also leaking at the top. You can see light through it. I just ordered a Classic Accessories cover for it, and thinking about doing the same for the Performer. I want to get this one first and see how well it's made. Comparing my old Kettle grill's cover to my WSM cover, it seems they don't make them like they used to.
