Spirit II 210 spits on me

My Spirit II E-210 sprays me with grease droplets from the vapor that comes off and up from the Flavorizer bars. Since not all the grate is covered with food being grilled, some vapor reaches my glasses and coats the lens of my glasses. I don't grill on high settings, usually 50%+/- full. Grill used ~20 times. Weber hasn't heard this complaint from others, the Customer Support rep said. I sent photos of my glass lens covered with specks. Weber requested a short video of me grilling and I did. Weber offering some Weber credit for future purchase. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I couldn't find any posts on TVWBB threads. Thx.

I have a similar experience cooking lamb chops. Beef, chicken, pork chops, sausage no problems

I have a 3 burner spirit with cast iron cooking grids. I turn off the center burner once the grill is hot and cook the lamb chops using indirect heat. That stopped the flare ups, smoke and splatter.

Thx. Not grilling lamb chops but everything else + veggies. Marinade and drippings are vaporized, as designed, and "whoosh" they float up (on me).

The firebox and grease catching system changed on the Spirit II. There is no grease tray just a small grease pan. The firebox has a smaller opening on the bottom and a grate over the opening. Your grill could have debris restricting air flow from the bottom or the design itself restricts air flow. Whether it matters…1

My 2012 Weber spirit exhausts out of the back of the lid. I get a heat whoosh when I open the lid but no need for goggles.

YEah definitely no need for goggles. I have dealt with this no matter how or where I cook. It's a part of life with glasses. The only place I don't get his from is my pelllet grills (unless I am finishing steaks at 450+). You just learn to live with it, or as I do, I simply take my glasses off. Certainly not anything dangerous or worth a complaint to Weber (or any company)

My Weber Q grill doesn't splatter on my glasses where I noticed it. The Q 200 grill lid when open is not over the firebox whereas the Spirit II is scooped toward the front of the grill when open pushing the vapor toward me. I think I will stick with the Q series for that reason.

Honestly I cannot see what you're not happy about. The lid on the Spirit opens just like a Genesis of any generation. I get plenty "splattered up" on my glasses from my Q320 as well. And heck the Q200 is a way better grill anyhow. That not withstanding. I'm just kinda SMH on it. Grilling gets you smoky and yeah maybe your glasses a little "greasy". Alcohol wipes take care of that. I keep a box right by the grills

That makes sense.

The lid on the spirit II is more shallow than the older Weber gas grills. The front slope is less than the older grills and less than your Q

The older grills capture the carbon and deposit it onto the inner hood

Well, IIRC some people have recommended to me to wear a hat. Supposedly the smoke rises, carrying little grease particles and then drops and hits the glasses as it cools and falls out. I tried it. Results? MEH. Didn't really notice difference. Honestly I just live with it. Certainly would never not use any of my grills because of it.
In any case try to enjoy yourself and welcome aboard. Jsut keep those alcohol wipes handy.

Wearing a hat does NO good, silly idea, ”heat rises” is a given, all a hat brim will do is provide an area for that grease laden air to collect and stick to the glasses even more! Not wearing a hat is more sensible but, I find minimal difference.
If you wear glasses, you have the same problem when cooking inside on any stove! What Larry says is the only escape, buy an extra box of glasses wipes!

Yeah, I don't recall where I was given that advice. May have actually been on these boards but who knows. I tried it (even though it made no sense to me). Actually was worse LOL. Anyway I keep a box right by the deck. And always have them in my pocket as well. As inevitably when I go to someone's home for a cook. I seem to always be "invited" to man the grill LOL. So, I carry 4 or 5 extras in my pocket at all times

I generally have an Altoids box full in the car for these occasions, as well as the “Small“ porta kitchen. When I go to the cottage, the “big box” goes. Well, both boxes, one of glasses wipes, the other of kitchen tools.

Weber is offering you credit for a future purchase? That's cool. Hang on, I'm calling Weber service to complain about my shoes getting ashes on them when cooking on the SmokeFire.

I'm a life-long outdoorsman and hiker. While the hat thing never worked for me while grilling, I swear by this trick in the woods (or your own yard): Spray/douse the brim of your hat with bug repellent of your choice. Mosquitos, black flies, etc, venture to that height and basically leave you alone. I've ruined so many hats this way 🤣.

Exceptions for me include Maine and Scottish Highlands. Their no-see-ums are brutal.
