so why Kingsford blue??

I've only ever used Kingsford but since reading forums about Stubbs I've been more inclined to try it. I was curious if the ratio used be different than Kingsford? Would a chimney of Kingsford burn the same as a chimney of Stubbs? Thanks!

By the time a full Kingsford chimney is ashed over at the top, the coals at the bottom are so burnt down that they're barely useable anymore. Not so with Stubbs, and they'll ash over quicker, too. Stubbs burns HOTTER, but also LONGER than Kingsford. Particularly if your cooker tends to run hot, you might try starting off your MM with 20% or so less lit if using Stubbs for the first time.

I think that is another good reason to use the minion method and just use the lit coals as a starter.

My cooker is still running hot but I think it is because it is still new and only has about 10 cooks under it. Im really looking forward to the switch to Stubbs even though I have a pick up full of Kingsford lol

I have recently tried Stubbs. I was using RO. After the first burn with Stubbs, it did burn for a long time with very little ash. I do use RO for grilling.

Here's the thing that I don't understand, I'm buying Stubbs for around $9 at my local Lowes. When I go to Sam's, I have to decide if I want to buy 10 pounds of ribs for $40 or a pork butt for $50 or what ever else they have. For me the price comes at the meat point not so much at the charcoal.

Have a good one...

I like to use Royal Oak Chef Select. I usually pay $15-17 / 40lb bag. If you are lucky enough to have a Meadowcreek Dealer nearby then you can get it at a great price. If not, then use DoItBest.com and have it shipped to your nearest store for free.

Chef Select

Now if you use Kingsford Competition Briquettes then you will experience a very similar taste to Chef Select. Either way food tastes much better with either of these versus blue bag Kingsford. JMO
