So glad I have a Toyota Hybrid

Yesterday made a Costco run. Gas and some groceries and things. I cannot believe during what SHOULD be working hours so many people have nothing better to do than buy gasoline. But, then the reason I am so glad we had the foresight to buy the RAV4 Hybrid.

I never thought I would buy a hybrid car. When I saw what was happening to gas prices I bought a CRV hybrid. Crazy times that we are in. Average gas prices are now over $6 a gallon. Costco is $5.95 for regular in my town.

We have a new gas station at the entrance to our housing development they, have a gazillion pumps so never a wait. Costco is a little cheaper but 15 miles away so it's a wash with the cost.
Barbs work is 4 miles round trip so that doesn't hurt too much even with the 4runner and she can get whatever groceries we need after work. The only time the Santa Fe leaves the garage is when I have a doctor's appointment. Sometimes it sits for two weeks at a time.
Although when I get down to 3/4 of a tank I top it off, yesterday that was $30... Ouch! That's at $4.57 a gallon.

I actually considered the CRV over the RAV. Only 2 things kept me from it. One, the only Honda dealer in the area (Napleton) is the biggest den of thieves and crooks I think I have ever run across in a dealership. They truly earn the moniker "stealership". And 2 I liked the idea that the RAV was redesigned from the ground up to be a hybrid first not a "converted" gas model. Though if Napleton was a decent company the CRV would have possibly gotten the nod over the RAV because it has a slight size (slightly larger) advantage. In the end we love our RAV. In looking back though I kinda wish we'd dropped one model line down from the Limited in the RAV and gotten an XLE version of the Highlander Hybrid. In any case. I think Hybrids (not full on electrics) are the answer. Son in law dropped a bundle buying a new Tesla. Took me for a spin. Left me kinda "MEH". So much tech but throughout the entire time in the car all he did was brag about all the "stuff" but explain how/why it's still not perfected. I.E. auto driving assist. Going on about it, but "yeah for some reason it insists on turning on windshield wipers, and yeah it even sees stop signs and then blows right through a huge 4Way stop at Baxter and Perryville. Thankfully a Sunday and no other vehicles around. If Toyota or Honda made one THOSE I would trust and or possibly buy. But nothing else.

I have been a Honda guy for a long time, when I think Hybrids I think Toyota so I was kind of torn. I bought my new car through Costco and it was super easy. I heard it was hard to get new cars because of all of the supply chain issues, it took a month to get the car I wanted. I have had a couple of CRVs and really liked them, so that was the deciding factor. Not interested in plug in electric at this point in time due to electric power shortage in California.

That is the same group as in the St Louis area and I totally agree. A couple years ago, I was looking at SUVs and interested in the Telluride. Not only did they want over sticker (Pre-Covid) but they wanted $1500 for the "Napleton Experience". I got that experience for free-went across the street and bought my Outback at a discount and no extra charges. I will never enter another Napleton dealorship.

Here in Vancouver Canada, thanks to our greedy government heavily taxing the gas... we pay the highest gas prices in North America.
Today we are at $2.36 per litre.
There are 3.785 litres to a US gallon
If my calculations are correct, this works out to $8.93 a gallon
$2.36 x 3.785 = $8.93 per gallon

Our RAV4 was $100 to top up the 3/4 of a tank

Feel sorry for diesel owners as it’s $2.50 per litre = $9.46 a gallon

I had thought that it might be interesting to drive from Chicago to Fairbanks Alaska
this summer. With the current gas prices, maybe not so much......

4 years ago my wife wanted to replace her 10 year old Camry. She told me she wanted a Hybrid and after driving other models, we settle on a 2018 Camry Hybrid with lots of bells and whistles. She quit driving and has never driven it but I really enjoy driving her car. I sold my truck and we're a one hybrid during this gas fiasco. :)

With our driving styles I have been trying to convince my wife that we should switch one of our cars to pure electric. Use it for our numerous short trips, which make up about 90% of our driving miles

My primary vehicle has been a Chevy volt since 2017. I love that friggin car. I drive it every day on the battery, and have the gas engine when I need it on weekends. I've been a GM tech since 2002 and unlike all my coworkers, I am very excited for all the new ev's to arrive.
