Smoking BBQ Sauce?

I saw on a TV show that a resturant actually smoked their BBQ sauce and I was wondering if anyone in here has ever done that, and if so how? It sounds very good, but I want to make sure it's worth the effort. Thanks for all your help.

I like to baste my baby back ribs while they smoke. I make a basic bbq sauce (thin in texture) and put it in a aluminum loaf pan partly over the coals so it thickens up and creates steam for moisture. The final bbq sauce is always really good and pretty mild when it comes to being smokey. Oh yea, I forgot to mention I do this on a OTG grill. Not a smoker.
