Smokey Mountain Being Delivered Today

Hi all
Just popping in to say hello. My Smokey Mountain is being delivered today. I gotta say I'm thoroughly excited to get it. I've been limping along with an old New Braunfels smoker from probably 15-20yrs ago. I have a lil Smokey Joe in the bottom of it and since the airflow control is so bad I could only really do ribs and chicken. (both being pretty mediocre) Temp control...hah. Forget it. So needless to say that's getting to retire and Sunday will be my first effort on the SM. I can't freaking wait.

I'm really looking forward to joining the community. I'm basically from OK with a few stops in the UK and now settled in the Bay Area, Cali.

Anyways, just saying howdy!

Jeremy

Welcome Jeremy
With "The Hippie" in your name, you do realize that this is a BBQ "Smoker" forum? :wsm:
j/k - just giving a fellow kalifornian a bad time

This is the first "hippie tweet" that I've ever seen !
Good luck with the new WSM !

Gonna cook up some short ribs and corn on the cob !
Tweetin' back at ya !

haha, thanks guys. been nicknamed "Hippie" for a long time so it's stuck. Everyone has clever forum handles but my creativity was on vacation. I'll be doing a couple slabs of ribs on Sunday to test drive it so I'm sure I'll be around ALOT in the near future. Can't wait!

Jeremy,

Welcome to the Family.
By chance, was that the Model 14000 Universal Water Smoker ?
If so, I personally know your pain. We purchased one in '97.
Very poor air control. Basically a log smoker, w/o the burn chamber, set on end and the bottom cut out.
The only control is the single vent on top.

That is the very one!
Man what a pain in the ***. I am amazed I was even able to do anything in it. I managed some spectacular ribs from it maybe 3-4 times. Otherwise it was a exercise in futility.

lol... If you can manager that one, the WSM will be a dream come true.
(actually, any smoker would be compared to the 14000)

Ours, for a time, became just a placeholder ;) Until we 'donated' it to the local dump.
Our previous smoker had finally destroyed itself after our 20 yrs of use. I saw the Model 14000,
with all of it's grill/shelf hangers, and just had to have it. Tried to use it for maybe 6 mos.
Of all the smokers I've seen or used, it was the worst.
Between '97 and '12, used carefully placed wood pieces with our gas grills for our smoking chores.
