Smokefire Second Wave Buyers Help Desk

OK, a question about the cooker. I am not noticing ash during the cook but I deliberately left the GrillGrates in when I cooked Chicken at 350 today. Once again, after shutdown I saw a little ash on the GrillGrates. What are you folks experiencing?

I put the Maverick ET-732 in to measure temp on the left side where I was cooking. Cooker read 350 and the Maverick read between 342 to 352. I'm good with that. So far I'm delighted with the performance of the Smokefire, it starts and shuts down quickly, makes good smoke at hi temps, rolls around so easy on the stock casters, and it does grill steaks. I need to get a Pork Butt so I can check it out low, slow, and greasy.

Did my initial burn in tonight. Got to 600 in roughly 12 1/2 minutes once I heard the pellets drop and saw a little smoke. Some ash flying around a bit as seen in the pictures. I did take the finger guard out before hand and have the newer ramp in there with the revision F model. No issues starting up or shutting down. Going to start simple with a nice steak tomorrow as this is my first foray into smoking.

You are on your way Drew. It amazed me by how fast it will get to 600. That's what I saw after shutdown. Thanks for the pics.

No problem. Quick question for anyone here. While I was vacuuming out the chamber, I noticed some pellets had fallen under the chute somehow. Anyone else have this happen?

Did Jerky using Smoke Boost. My Maverick said the temp ran between 174 to 237. I had planned on 2 hours of smoke and then Dehydrator but I pulled it out after 30 minutes because I want to dry it not cook it. 5 hours in the dehydrator and it was done. Great smoke flavor. I used the control on the grill to start the cook because the app was stuck on the update page. That later cleared and the update was applied. I'm current on my software. I have a stack of 3 Jerky racks on a tray and they fill most of my Camp Chef. I may be able to squeeze a second set into the Smokefire but probably won't. Tomorrow I'm doing the longer cook test with a Pork Butt. Three things I was hoping with the Smokefire. It grilled a steak, it smokes Jerky, and the longer smoke is the final test to satisfy my third hope. I didn't use my tripod for this shot. That blue mist is smoke. :)
