Ate a lot of them when I was a kid. Dad was raised in central Texas during the depression and that was a big part of their diet. He loved them and, knowing that, mom would cook up a pot every week or 10 days. I remember when the butchers almost gave ham hocks away. Now you can buy a good ham for less per pound than the hocks. Like dad, I still love them. Nothing like a bowl of ham hocks & pintos served with some unsweetened corn bread, slathered with butter and some honey.
