Smoke Prime Rib Roast on Gas Grill?

I've purchased a quality 7 pound Prime Rib roast from Costco and am planning on cooking it tomorrow for a dinner party. I wanted to try smoking this prime rib on my Weber Genesis Silver B. I haven't smoked anything before, but have read quite a bit about smoking. I'll lay out what my basic plan is, and let me know if you would do anything different. I've got a recipe I like, so I'm just looking for advice on how to smoke a roast.

My basic plan is to set the back burner to it's lowest setting, and place the rib roast towards the front of the grill. My grill is about 225F when I do this. I'll create "Smoke Bombs" that consist of 2 cups of chips each. I'll soak the chips in half of these "bombs." About every 45 minutes to an hour, I'll place one soaked "bomb" and one unsoaked "bomb" below the grates on the flavorizer bars. I'll cook the roast until it gets up to about 125F in the center. Then I'll let it rest before I sear the outside of the roast. After that, I'll slice and serve.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is the Genesis the only cooker you have? Do you have a kettle or a Performer? They would be my first choice.

Your plan will work just fine. I'd skip soaking the chips, just go dry. Short version is that the chips won't absorb enough water to make a difference. Also, part way through the smoke/cook, you might want to flip/rotate the loin so that both sides spend about 1/2 the time facing the rear burner. If you want to get really froggy, truss the loin with butcher's twine and roll it during the cook.
