Self Basting Turkey

I haven't smoked a turkey yet. I've read here not to brine a self basting turkey. We have a self basting turkey in the freezer.
Will it turn out real bad if we try to use the apple brine recipe from this site?

IMO, it would be better to "salt" it (see instructions under "cooking topics".

A self basting turkey is already brined. The percent of solution is variable.

Additional brining - use less salt, flavor may take longer to infuse.

I brined the self basting turkey with the apple brine from this site. It turned out really well.
I won't be afraid of using brine with a self basting turkey next time.

I brined a self-basting turkey breast for Thanksgiving using the apple brine recipe. It turned out perfect. I smoked it with a couple of chunks of apple wood and the family raved about how much they enjoyed it.
