Second charcoal grate

how many use the second charcoal grate ?

Do you mainly use it if you cook with lump, ie smaller pieces, or is it really benifical for us briquette users ?

I've used one since my second cook on my WSM..I could see where I lost some pieces of bricks that got away..

I do. I'm a converted lumpster. Helps prevent smaller lump pieces from falling into the charcoal bowl.

Been using it since day one. I welded mine together. After 6 years now, it's just about time to weld a new set together. Mine are getting pretty thin and sagging pretty bad in the center. Might make it the rest of the year and that's about it.

I do, although my second grate is not a charcoal grate, but is the cooking grate from a Brinkmann Gourmet smoker I used to have. The effect is the same; I use lump exclusively and it helps keep the smaller pieces up where the action is.
