Scored a good price on Pork Butt

After hitting up Home Depot for another 120 lbs of charcoal, I stopped at Kroger for dinner ingredients. In one of the coolers were several cryopacked pork butts on clearance at $0.89 per pound. The sell by date is tomorrow, so they marked them down from their regular $1.49 sale price.

I grabbed a couple ten pounders and an eleven pounder. I figure to cook one or two this weekend and toss the rest into the freezer.

I've seen then on sale only once for $0.89 before and with the recent high prices, I thought I'd stock up.

That's not a good price 'round here. That's a steal.

Last year I could occasionally catch 'em even as low as .98 at a local grocer, but this year, I think the lowest price has been 1.48.

This is the first memorial day in years that butts haven't been on sale

Price is 50% higher from a year ago.
BB ribs same $3 as last year.

That's a Great price, glad to hear you picked up some pork butt. My best deal, was Fresh and Easy Black Friday sale, they had Farmer John brand pork butt roast on sale, for $.50 cents a pound. I stocked up on that deal.

Commodities such as corn, soybeans (feed), live and dressed cattle and pork have skyrocketed the past 2 years along with everything else. I'm thinking next year we're going to reminice about how cheap butts were at 1.49!! sigh

Grab 'em cheap when you can and stock the freezer!

The two big ones came off this smoker sometime around 1:00 today and taste good. They are foiled and sitting in the cooler to get ready for tonight's race.
