Ok, my grates are extremely rusty and pitted. Thought about using a wire wheel with an electric drill to remove the severe areas.WIll it harm the grates? I can't tell if they are cast iron or not. Any Ideas???

Gas or charcoal cooking grates?
Weber sent me a new grate for my OTS when they were 8 years old.

Paul, it's not likely the wire brush will hurt them. They are already rusting so you need to get that off them and season so they won't rust more.

It happens. I had issues with CI grates on another grill and they cleaned up fine.

Steve, I wish I'd said that !

No it wont harm them. But after you cleaned them be sure to get them seasoned ASAP. And spend some time doing this so they wont rust up on you again.
