Rust spot on water pan. Fixable?

My 18.5 has developed a small rust spot that's now looking like it will quickly penetrate through. I was going to just sand it and repaint but I was worried it might just delay the inevitable and ruin a batch of whatever I'm making. Has anyone dealt with this issue and is there a "forum approved" fix? I live in Miami Beach and the salt air means I essentially live on a boat so almost anything that spends time outdoors has 1/3 the normal life span. Regardless with careful cleaning and keeping it in the screen room, I've kept it in pretty good shape over the years, but I guess it got a chip in the enamel on the water pan and the rust quickly took hold.

Any fix? is there an alternative to the rip off of $40 for a replacement?

This is the only company in the U.S. that can 're-porcelain' (if that's a real word) metal. And they say it's expensive so your $40 sounds pretty good.

I suppose you could always grind off the rust (unless there's already a hole there) and spray with rustoleum black heat-resistant spray. If the bowl is going to be replaced anyways, give the spray a try. Nothing to lose except the price of the paint.

Thanks guys. I'm also looking into some kind of high temp epoxy (if there is such a thing) and some Ospho treatment. Convert the rust with Ospho and then go over it with a thick epoxy or if not, that high heat paint Len mentioned. I'll report the results.
