Royal Oak charcoal briquettes

I saw this on sale for $5.99/18 lbs. bag. I had never seen them before and did not even realize they were made. Are they any good? The price seems good. I have used their lump in the past for long cooks, but know nothing about the quality of the briquettes. Are the briquettes any good, or should I just stick with Kingsford briquettes? Thanks.

I buy them on sale for 4-4.50 for an 18# bag at Menard's, which is a home-depot type store in the midwest.

I think they are fine. They produce a lot of ash, just like Kingsford. They don't smell as funky on light up, but they are not all-natural like Rancher or similar brands.

I prefer them to Kingsford due to the cost and smell.

Hi,

Royal Oak makes more than one king of briquette.

The orange bag is their widely sold variety.

They also have an all natural charcoal briquette that is sold in a tan bag through food service outlets.

I've used both, but wasn't aware the food service ones were all natural. They also seem to be a bigger briq than the regular orange bag ones. They're also a little more expensive at least from my experience.

About a week ago I used the RO "Chef's Select" briquettes for some ribs and I like them better than the regular RO briquettes I usually use. Nathan's correct about them being a little larger and while they produced a fair amount of ash it seemed less fluffy, which is IMO a good thing.

I had to order my bag and it came to around $19 for 40 pounds, but since I'm going to use it exclusively for the WSM it should last awhile.
