rotisserie mod questions

Ok, so I have (2) 18.5 WSM's and a performer. A while ago before I got the performer, my buddy gave me a rotisserie setup (motor, rods, meat holders). At some point it probably belonged to a gasser.

I was thinking about modifying one of the WSM's to use the rotisserie on it. It would be as simple as drilling a hole and cutting a slot in the body, and mounting a bracket for the motor. The meat would sit just below top grate level on the 18.5

So I can either do that or just buy a whole rotisserie kit for the performer. I don't think I can just buy the ring as the roti I have is a little different (could maybe be adapted). I have only seen rotisseries for 22's and not 18.5's

So what would you guys do? Modify the 18.5, or just go ahead and spend the $139-$149 on a complete new setup for the performer

I have the cajun bandit rotisserie, love it. That's what I'd recommend for you! Its fun and easy to spend other peoples money lol.

I've seen the WSM cut and modified, that will work and cost you next to nothing. I've had the kettle rotisserie for the 22 and liked it. I fabricated a ring for my 26 as well. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other, it's more a matter of preference or budget.

I did the 18.5 and it worked just fine.

Thanks folks. And Sheila, you are right :).

I decided to do the project since I like making my own things. I started working on the project today. Gotta make a bracket and do a few other things.

Will post some pics when I get them. I came up with another project possibly (a tiny trailer to haul my smokers and grill around ) so might be delayed

Sorry off topic, where did you get those locking wheels?

Newb here, what rotisserie model fits the 22.5 WSM?

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Too late, hijacked :(

That's alright, I decided to use the rotisserie for the weber spirit I got for work and buy a rotisserie for the performer

Jeff, "Cajun bandit" has a rotisserie that will fit the 22.5 WSM and the kettle as well. It flips one way or the other to be used on both

I've resisted the urge to mod out one of my 18" WSM's, but I did do it to one of my 22" bullets.

This was before Cajun Bandit came out with the Reversible Rotisserie Rings. I've outfitted the kettle conversion and WSM with stainless steel rings and they rock!
