Anyone ever try River Birch wood for smoking?
I've got one that needs pruning.
I will de-bark it if I give it a try.

I've used birch bark to light a fire due to the oils in it but I have never used it as smoke wood. Go light with it and see if you like the flavor. Be sure to let us know if you do. I love the smell of burning birch.

"Birch - Birch gives off good heat but tends to be consumed pretty quickly. The flavor is good, similar to maple which compliments pork and poultry nicely."
But no prunin' that tree until you're healed up and all!

Thanks guys!

I did see the use of birch mentioned, but assume they are talking about white or paper birch. Guess there's not much difference.
If I try it, I'll give the results.

Jim, I've got a big ole son to do the heavy work around here

That looks like the birch around here that I use. The stuff I use is fine. I usually take the bark off it cause it's oily, gives off a heavy black smoke.
