Restoring my first Weber

Dear all,

The beautiful examples in this forum made me want to try to find one to restore. I found a 1990 Genesis 1 with good bones, and my respect to those removing all the burnt carbon on your examples. I took a lot but left some for “character”:). I would like a wheel insert and the gas level sticker, and will appreciate some sources.

Will any 6” white wall insert fit a Genesis 1?

Much appreciated 👍🏼

Welcome Jay!
Nice Genesis 1 you have there.
Those wide white wall inserts for first generation Genesis 1 are hard to find. The guy I bought mine from doesn't have any up for sale but I'll do a little searching and see if I can find any. It's an 8" wheel wide white wall.

@Jon Tofte might be able to help with the fuel level sticker.

Thanks and my respects on your restorations. So mine was built 12/1989. The wheels look like the older style, but they measured 6 1/2” in diameter. Do you think they are not original? The grill stands leveled.

They sure look original and I'm pretty sure that style only came in one size. I don't have any wide whites where I'm at to check. Maybe someone else can explain.

Here is pics of my 8" and 6" regular white walls. Yours should be the same as the 8" except wider white wall. Are you measuring the wheel or the insert?

Love those redheads. Great job on yours!

Welcome to TVWBB Jay! I think if you remeasure, you will find that those wheels - outer edge to outer edge - are in fact 8".

Here is a seller on Etsy who has just two of that early style left! (They are the coolest ones in my book!)

I used a 3D insert that I got on Etsy - probably from this seller (and repainted the wheel black) on a restore I did last year:

PM me if you are interested in a replacement tank fuel gauge sticker. I also have the "Warning" sticker that goes on the tank scale.

Nice job there. Though IDK why but something looks a little "unfinished". Not the wheels. Maybe if the rack was at the front of the cart? Or I don't recall if they had 2 racks. It just looks a little "empty" down there :D

Good eye on that, Larry! Looking at the 1988 brochure, you are right that the bottom wire rack was in the front when sold:

Of course, you can put it where you like it!

I appreciate your welcome and the tips, yes I’ll pm you. Is the warning stick on my year?, I’m guessing 1990 since the 12/89 stamp on the lid sides.

Thanks again

That’s what I told my wife, but we grilled a picahna (sorry charcoal Gods) and we found it handy to have the open space right in front to place the warming rack.

I am not really sure when they started using those. It is very possible that yours never had a warning sticker. I do have the fuel level sticker that matches what your grill has.

So I checked my 1888 jr, my 1988 Genesis 2 and my 1989 Genesis 3. No warning sticker. I'm thinking they must have started using them on the second generation x000. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Interesting I also noticed that my first year first generation 1985 Genesis 2 has this sticker facing inwards on the tank scale hanger bracket.

That's a label that would be cool to reproduce and put back on the grill when it's restored. I'm also not sure when they started putting the warning labels on the tank scale.
