Reputable websites to buy parts???

@Paul Maul
I've been thinking about how to respond to what you said above about all the old craftsman retiring. I've been thinking and saying the same thing for a while now. I think the value of a true Craftsman who can build and work on things with his own two hands is going to go up quite a bit in the future. For the most part these younger generations coming up have been raised so differently under much different circumstances.

I believe I’m a couple year older than you. Worked for 27 years as a draftsman/3d designer helping to design automotive components. I started out on a drafting board with a pencil and a T Square. Stroking lines and a$$es and elbows we would say. The drafting room I first worked in had 60 a$$es and 120 elbows. That room went from 60 to 25 with the introduction of CAD in a relatively short amount of time. The draftsman were phased out eventually and replaced by design engineers, offshoring and innovation. Some design engineers I worked with couldn’t change a tire if you gave them a million dollars. Most of them brilliant academically are obviously smart enough to change a tire but they never had to or wanted to. I would hear from these brilliant people complain that the “idiot” machinist couldn’t make the part they designed or that the plumber wanted $700 to change a garbage disposer after throwing chicken bones in it to “sharpen” the blades (true story). It’s became “not cool” to turn a wrench or to be blue collar guy. Do I sound bitter? Maybe a little. Do I blame these young men and women for getting steered away from the trades? No. I think one day soon we all will see who is “cool” in the end.

For the life of me I cannot find a thread that I previously seen which gave a list of reputable websites to buy replacement parts. I would like to buy a part from www.thebbqdepot.com but I am afraid to pull the trigger. Why? you ask. Because I was ripped off before from what looked like a good website from Missouri. Any help will be appreciated.
I don't know about thebbqdepot.com but I would avoid bbqgrills.com. I was trying to help my niece and ordered some parts from them and they never shipped. Multiple emails to them mostly unanswered and when they did reply it was obvious they were just stalling. Ended up having to get my credit card company involved and all charges were disputed/removed. On the other hand, I have had very good luck with grillparts.com.

Oh wow. Thanks. I had a similar situation happen to me. That’s why I asked the question.

There are so many with similar names...
I have used bbqparts.com and have huge respect for them.
I have also purchased from thebbqdepot.com and been happy.
And, also as I mentioned grillparts.com has been excellent and where I bought burners for my 1st generation Summit and for use in my Vieluxe project.
I have had no dealings with bbqgrills.com

I use PayPal backed by a credit card If I'm buying from a small site that I'm not sure of.

Paypal keeps my credit card info private so I don't risk having my CC info getting exploited and the combined buyer protection is a benefit.

If I find a site that I have to order something from that doesn't take paypal, I put just enough funds into a Visa Gift card and use that for the purchase. If that get's hacked or exploited there is not that much risk.

Thank you John.

This is great info Dan. I’ve been ripped off once and my cc compromised before. It’s terrible. I prefer Amazon for online stuff but as we all know parts are not always on there. Thank you for this advice

Yeah I had my CC compromised once. I never knew I needed two first class tickets to Sao Paolo Brazil. Thankfully my CC company put a hold on my account and called me to confirm the purchase which is how I learned about it. I still am not certain where it was compromised.

These crooks are very bold. They go to sleep at night knowing they ripped someone off and forget about in the morning. It’s sad.

Had it happen to my company card once. I only use it for a couple of vendors that don't offer PayPal. Got my statement and saw charges for a grocery in Alabama and then tickets to Disney World and Epcot along with some restaurants in the parks. Card company cancelled the card, overnighted a new one and took the charges off my bill. A vacation I didn't even get to take. Thought about calling the vendors and asking if anyone there had taken vacation to Florida.

It happens a lot. I won’t go into what happened to my 78 year old mother here but she cried for week. Scammer got her bad.

I think most people have had a card compromised at some point. I have a couple times.
One time a bunch of charges for Itunes songs. Just a few bucks each. Must have been a kid. Another time someone used it down in Georgia at several places and charged up a couple grand in hours. Luckily my CC company flagged it and I didn't lose anything.

It happens. Last summer after picking Blake up from soccer wife took him to Culvers for a bite to eat. Within an hour or so of her being there suddenly text messages began coming in re charges all over the west coast. The girl she handed the CC to did not wait long to run it through a swipe copier and either sold or began using it somehow. She went back to that store and explained it to the manager and he noted it wasn't the first time he'd heard that possible issue from that employee.
There are measures you can take. Using contactless payment is the best. As the CC number is never seen by a merchant

What do you mean by contactless payment, Larry? When you tap the card on the credit card pad?
