Remotes?

I see alot of guys on this forum use remote thermos to monitor meat temps. I have never tried one. I find that it is kinda unique to WSM users for the most part. Heck, I don't even own a digital thermo. I just use a simple dial! Now, I do have a nice Ashcroft mounted in the lid that, I could not do without, but I have never monitored grate temps, or used a wireless, or even "wired remotes. Anybody else in the dark when cooking like me?

I bought a ET-73 and used it for a while, but now I don't. I have a therm in my lid, but that's it for smoker temp. As for meat temp, I pretty much know how long it takes to cook the tings I cook so I just use my Thermapen toward the end of the cook.

Not exactly in the dark, but minimal.

Yea I also purchased the ET-73 and used it the first few cooks with the remote. Since then I have been just dropping the probe through the lid vent and not even turning on the remote receiver.

I've got a ET-73 that I've been using. I like it cause I can monitor the temps from anywhere in the house and its good for overnight cooks so I can actually sleep without worrying too much about the temps.

I'm with Jason! I have 4 Mavericks and they just make it convenient to do other things, espcecially sleep while doing overnighters!

Don't do many overnighters, but I like the ability to monitor temps from inside during the winter months.

i dont use remotes. the only time i check actual meat temp is on poultry so it hits that 165 mark. i have a lid gauge is tick through the lid vent of my 18" WDM so i can get a read of where the cooker is, but thats it.
