One huge thing is this. Your grates are what you will directly interact with every time you cook on that grill. Skimp on quality and it will haunt you every time you cook. The thicker the rods, the sturdier the grates will be, won't flex, easier to keep clean, better "marks" if that's what you're all about and if they're spaced well (some I swear you could drop an entire T-Bone through, much more enjoyable to cook on.
