Quick question regarding the inside of my WSB

Hi,

have about 4 smokes on the new WSB so far. I am preparing for ribs tomorrow and when I opened up the lid, this is what I saw. Is this just smoke residue? We've had cold temps and the grill has not been in use for almost one month.

Inside my WSB

Thanks
Frank

That residue is normal. It is from the smoke as I understand it. Mine is coated with it so don't worry. If it gets too thick you can clean it a little. The only place that I worry about is in the dome. If the smoke residue gets too thick it flakes off and can fall on your product. I sometimes take a crumpled up ball of foil and give it a quick rub to scrape loose some of the flakes.
Go smoke and enjoy.

Mine stopped getting that brown funky stuff, and mold when I quit using water in the pan.

Where do you live Frank?
Outside conditions may have an effect too.

The thing to be on the lookout for is in the lid. That which you see is normal. So to is that same stuff in the lid. It harden and flakes off onto your food. No big deal, you just make sure you look and brush off the inside of your lid as needed. Stuff on the inside sides of the WSM is no big deal.

every couple of cooks I knock of the flakes inside of the lid as well.......other than that, no worries

After a few more cooks it will get more "seasoned".. Nothing wrong at all. Like these other smokeheads already said, just clean yer dome lid under neath with a piece of balled up foil so flakes do not get on yer Q! Also clean yer grates, duh right! I just burn the grates by puttin them right on the charcoal grate then brushing them.
