Question about which grate to use

Smoking two 6 lb butts tomorrow, rubbed and sitting in the fridge. I have the 22.5 bullet and was wondering which grate should I but them on, the lower of leave the lower out and cook on the upper

Always cook on the top grate when you can. Remove the bottom grate when doing so to eliminate the need to clean it.

I'll second that Chris. I have finished cooking many times on my 22, and THEN remember that I should have removed the bottom grate.

Which ever grate is more convenient is my recommendation. The 22" will easily hold 4 butts on one grate so there's no worry about 'over crowding'.

No need to take either grate out.
