Q200 igniter/piezo

The igniter in my free Q200 has died.. it slides in and out of the casing and no longer lights. It’s a UK version, there seems to be a number of part 12 parts, which one should I go for? I would say it’s a snap fit one, or maybe the last one on the list?
The Q was from around 2006 or 2007.

I just replaced the electronic (battery) igniter on a Q1200 today with an old school Piezo. I had two electronic ones and could get neither to fire. I decided to quit tormenting myself and just stick a piezo in there. Fired off first push and I expect it to the next 875 times I push it.

I wasn’t sure which one to go for so I contacted Weber and a new igniter kit is on the way.

I did the same as Bruce on my Q320 rehab, and the piezo works great! No batteries to worry about any more, simple is better.

The new piezo ignitor kit has arrived with a very thorough instruction manual. Pouring down with rain today so hoping nice and dry at the weekend and I can install it.

As long as it's raining you can now easily test that piezo. Make sure your good and wet, hold your finger on the end and click it to make sure the new igniter is working :D
I did click it to see if it clicks, why I did I don’t know !!
Anyway, all fitted and back to cooking on gas 😁
I was thinking the next time I need to replace a part it might be time for a new Q? This one is from 2006 so not cost effective to keep replacing parts ?

Liz: parts should not be too expensive. As long as the body of the grill is solid, it should be much more cost effective to buy some new grates and burners ever so often. New grates on a new grill won't last any longer than new grates on an old grill. Same with burners. One thing I can tell you though is a a new Q will need the electronic igniter replaced much sooner than a piezo on avarage.

@Bruce and @LMichaels you guys know your stuff with these Q’s. It won’t light now! I have tried twice with leaving the gas on for a good 30 seconds before the piezo and nothing. I can smell the gas which is unusual for me as I have a terrible sense of smell and struggle to smell anything! The piezo is pointing direct at the tube, should it be pointing upwards slightly to “flash” towards the top when the burner holes are?

If the igniter is too close to the tube, it won't ignite the propane. My Q220 igniter points strait at the tube and is a little less than 1/4" away from the tube. Can you see your igniter spark when you push the button? How far away from the tube is the igniter? Did you try lighting the burner with a match or lighter? If so, how do the flames look on HI?

Maybe post a photo of your grill igniter showing the tube and igniter would help.

Thanks Bruce. The white edge of the igniter is touching the tube, the instructions said to be flush, touching. Yes, it does spark.
I will need to get some more gas for the long lighter, as I am not comfortable using a regular lighter. But normally it’s a blue flame I think?

OK, your igniter system is slightly different than mine. I don't have the ceramic igniter. But, I am thinking maybe the holes in the burner facing the igniter could be clogged. I would remove the burner tube and make sure they are clean. I believe there are 4 of them facing the igniter.

Thanks, it’s dark here now so will look in the morning. I have picked a great week to be on holiday from work lots of sunshine is sunny Guernsey 🌞

If you installed an aftermarket burner it could be the issue. I tried and aftermarket well recommended burner set on mine. Would not light to save my soul. Installed the original lights perfect every time

It’s a genuine Weber piezo part direct from them, it was slightly different to the one I removed. Weber wanted the model number before they would confirm which part I needed.
I haven’t changed the burner tube, but maybe I need to get one for when this one needs replacing.

Thanks @Bruce. I pressure washed the patio today so the Q got a pressure wash too. All dried, put back together and it works again!
What do you think of the condition of the tube? Should I get one now to keep before the prices go up?
