Pulled Pork In The Freezer: How long will it last?

I cooked two almost 8 pounders last Thursday morning for Thanksgiving, but it's all gone (those pigs!). I was hoping to have some left over to freeze, so now I'm gonna make another one this weekend and plan on vacuum-sealing the majority of it.
Will it last, say... a month or two? I was gonna package them in smaller packs simply for conveinence.
I've never had the chance to freeze any cooks since leftovers are not normal in this house.

Thanks for your response!

If properly vacuum sealed it should last for many-many months in the freezer. The fine people at Jarden corp state that meat should last 2-3 years when vacuum-sealed and put in a freezer. Personally my frozen meat has never been put to that test as it seems to get consumed long before 2-3 years have expired.

Had a package that was forgotten, buried in the freezer (vac packed), for eight months and it was fine. I was quite amazed. Certainly wasn't expecting that!

Jim

Normally I have the same problem no leftovers.

This passed saturday I smoked a 9.5 lb Butt just for the freezer. I still had one small package vaccum packed from the last butt I smoked for the freezer.

In my case (family situation) I freeze a few different sizes of packages of Pulled Pork.

Smaller ones for when only I want a couple of PP sammy's for lunch, and Bigger packages for the family etc.

Good luck

Hey Jim, The Food Saver is such a good invention. I have vacuum sealed meats for many months with no negative results. Also, one of the good things is that I seal in single serving portions and I can reheat the meat in the same packaging with boiling water.

Ok, thanks guys, it's on for the weekend.
Thought I'd never say I'd love a big butt...

I've had pulled pork that has been vac sealed and frozed for over a year. Still tasted like it just came off the WSM. One thing though, periodically a bag will leak and you'll get an ice accumulation inside. This has happened even though I always double seal the bag (both ends). So you need to check your inventory periodically.

Just to add another 2 cents worth: yesterday I found two bags of pulled pork that I froze back in August. One was last night's dinner and it was delicious.

Reminds me of the old commercial on Tootsie Roll Pops
"How many licks does it take to get to the center?"...lick, lick, lick, CRUNCH..."It takes 3!"

I've kept q for many months (one year +) with no problem with the exception of the occasional bag seal failure. I try to check after a few hours...can't ever remember the seal failing after significant time....but seal failure is higher than I'd like it to be...usually due to moisture in the seal I think.
