Well, that cuts into my 3.2% COLA plus my Part D premiums are going up also. Maybe a break even this year. Oh, but my 401k is sinking, so....
Just got back from the store. Picked up a chuck roast at just a couple cents under $8/pound. That used to be the cheap cut of meat. We only use it in vegetable soup. It cost nearly the same as a much nicer rump roast,
Cut that 50/50 with brisket which is $3.99#Paid $7.99/lb a chuck roast today. Burgers are getting expensive!
I retired from the Navy 34 years ago and have had to ride out the economic ups and downs. Consumer goods have risen steadily through those years so I didn't experience the bubble you're talking about. During the recent inflationary surge I have seen prices rise more quickly. That's what people are feeling in their wallet.I’m in my 60’s and have a pretty good memory.
Have consumer goods “gotten expensive” or have we been living in a bubble the last 30 years where consumer goods have been relatively “cheap” and are now more realistically priced?
In my opinion, the latter

Some may not remember this, but I knew it was a big mistake when Nixon sent Kissinger over there in '71.Consumer goods were more expensive before The People’s Republic of China became the world’s factory floor.
Now that the world has figured out that China is a military threat, the world is putting back.
The days of $300 [insert “should be more expensive” consumer item here] with all the bells and whistles is hopefully coming to an end.
All the comments above are strictly my opinion.
I do. I also recall thinking "This is the beginning of the end".Some may not remember this, but I knew it was a big mistake when Nixon sent Kissinger over there in '71.

Me, too. You probably also remember the hue and cry when the national debt hit $1 trillion? Now it's $33T. I'll never figure out how the gov't can get away with that and I can't.I do. I also recall thinking "This is the beginning of the end".
