Inflation even rearing it's ugly head so bad at Costco. Casually looking at briskets yesterday. No Prime ones only Choice but they were $65 to $75!!!! $3.99lb!!!! Ridiculous.

That seems about the going rate. Beef is up 20% compared to last year.
Bought a twin pack of chuck roasts from shams for $ 5.98 Lb, where a few months ago was under 4 bucks.

Yeah, when I bought that huge brisket (Prime) in August for that last gathering I had, it was 15# IIRC and was under $60!

Must be a regional thing. After not seeing any for months, the other day, they had Prime packers at our Costco, (Baltimore Metro area), for $4.49lb. The flats are $7.99lb🤬 I'm not sure how the flats were graded, because I don't cook flats.
At $4.49lb for prime, that's a buy for me every time. The only reason that I didn't buy one is that my freezer is packed to the brim. The brisket in our freezer was $3.49lb I guess that I'll have to cook it to make more room;)

I’m in my 60’s and have a pretty good memory.

Have consumer goods “gotten expensive” or have we been living in a bubble the last 30 years where consumer goods have been relatively “cheap” and are now more realistically priced?

In my opinion, the latter

Costco hasn't had prime brisket (or anything else I've looked at) for some time, prices for choice brisket have been $3.50-$3.99/lb. here in MN.

I used to buy whole beef tenderloins and break them down into filets. Last time I could find those, they were something like $25/lb. No. Just no.

OH BOY!!! Are they forcing us to become vegetarians?

Good thing I like SPAM and SCRAPPLE. (at least I think they are cheaper lol)

Choice makes a better brisket than prime, IMO.

$3.99 has been the price since the demic eased. The days of $2.49# are long gone. It’s still a great value at $3.99 though.

I just read in the news, olive harvest in Europe is a bust. The weather was too hot so hang on, EVOO prices are going up.

Definitely more expensive. Drastically so. And not realistically so. It's getting VERY hard to keep up with them. And not just re brisket prices and such. And it's especially bad for those of us retired, and trying desperately to not dip into investments and such. For those who're still working, maybe it's not "as bad" since there is still a relatively free market in the jobs world and it's likely still not too hard to either demand higher wage or jump ship and head elsewhere. We don't have that luxury and are still getting bombarded on all sides. Not just food/fuel, but property taxes literally skyrocketing, the "man" watching everything you do and sticking their hand in your pockets if you try to make a little "beer money" on the side. Yeah sorry if this is "reasonable" I ain't buyin' it.

Remember the 70’s?

WIN

Do you remember stories about people living on fixed incomes reduced to eating cat food?

And that was before cable tv and internet costs, prescription drugs and medical procedures/ treatments for any and all maladies, etc. and the associated drain on the finances.

I will eat beans, rice and corn six days a week and be happy if I could afford a nice steak and potatoes one day- consider myself blessed even.

The last 30 years are in my opinion what it must have been like being a Roman citizen during the reign of Augustus.

The bad news is, nothing lasts forever.

The good news is, nothing lasts forever.

TLDR:

I’m going to grill some type of beef this weekend.

Cheers
