Well its a small world. I just got my orange thermopen in yesterday, and am going this evening to get a 6 lb butt to put on EARLY in the morning. The thermopen is great. I had been wanting one for a while but didn't want to shell out the money. Then I saw the post on here about the sale, too good to pass up!

Butts come and Butts go but an Orange Thermopen will be your best friend for life. I know becuase mine has been right by my side for the last 3 years.

Yep, it was a Open Box deal, but what a bargain (as my wife would say!). Sadly, it will do me no good with my butt tomorrow, as I faithfully use my wireless Maverick on long cooks and never, ever peak. Still, it's good to have it in the house. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to check the temp of one food or another and wait, wait, wait (crickets sounding) for one of my other three thermo's to find some figure. No more for me, baby! I'm rocking in 3 seconds!

When your Maverick says you've reached the target temp, take your Thermopen and poke around. You will see that the butt will be many different temps depending on where you stick the probe. It's interesting to watch and learn how the different muscles on a butt cook. I'd worry less about peaking once I get past 180 degrees.
