Hello all,

I have discovered that I have some porcelain chipping in the bottom of my WSM. There is also a little rust starting to form. I am thinking of sanding it out and spraying with a high temp rustoleum paint. has anyone else ever had this problem with the porcelain chipping. If so how did you fix it. This WSM is approx 10 years old.

Thanks,

Larry B

What has happened to me was that rust formed on a small spot on the inside of the bottom part of the bowl. I attribut this to not cleaning out the ashes as well as i should have or letting a little rain water get in there. It rusted through on a couple of small spots. I took the bowl to a welder who but a patch on the bottom. I sprayed it with "something" and the bowl works fine. ... and, I think it did happen after about 10 years.

Boy aren't those WSMs poorly made !

Thanks for the info Paul,

I have sanded it and I got pretty much all the rust out. I then sprayed it with some high temp BBQ black paint. I guess we'll see what happens.

Best regards,

Larry,
I think you did about all you could do. I'd venture to guess that it will last awhile and come back or come up in other places. Rust is that way. But if you keep ahead of the rust with repairs like you made, you're gonna get a long life out of your WSM. I would try to sand as little of the porcelain off as possible.
